We think Tabernas is a great location and we fell in love with this place the minute we saw it years ago. You really feel like you've stepped back in time here and the scenery is truly unspoilt as far as the eye can see. From Villa Roxmar we have uninterrupted views of the mountains in every direction. Civilisation is just at arm's reach if you want it though! Just a 5 min drive takes you into Tabernas, a typically sleepy Spanish village where there are shops, bars and restaurants - all serving great local food and drink and that warm Spanish hospitality.
There's so much variety within close reach and we find this gives our guests flexibilty to make their holiday as relaxing or active as they wish. It's a great place for couples, families or friends to come and spend time with each other. If you want to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of modern life then this is the place to do it. Many people come here just to unwind, take in the stunning scenery on relaxing walks or horse rides, breathe in that fresh mountain air, eat and drink well, and enjoy the spectacular sunsets.

If you want a bit more excitement or sightseeing, theres loads to see and do, especially if you have a hire car. You can take a trip into Tabernas or any of the other towns or villages nearby, which all have great bars, restaurants, markets, shops and sightseeing attractions. The upbeat tourist resort of Roquetas de Mar is 30 mins away and the beautiful beach resort of Mojacar Playa with its many attractions and thriving nightlife is 40 mins away. If you want great shopping then we're just 25 mins from Almeria City Centre. We are bordered on 1000's of acres of National Park here, so there are many natural attractions within reach, such as the Caves of Sorbas and the stunning Park of Cabo de Gata, both are just 20 -30 mins away. Don't forget we're also 5 mins from the ever-popular western theme parks, Fort Bravo & Oasys where you can see their famous gun-fights and stunt riding shows. They also have a water park and zoo, so there's something for all the family.
If you like history there are museums and historical sites, including the beautiful Moorish Castle which features a lot in our lovely sunset photos, and is very close to Villa Roxmar! If you're into winter sports like skiing or snowboarding then you can travel to the resort of Pradollano in the Sierra Nevadas - which boasts 39 ski runs over 62km.
Even though this might look like we're in the middle of the mountains we're incredibly easy to find and only 15 mins drive from Almeria airport. The route from the airport to us is very direct and the roads are excellent all the way here, so no driving for hours up steep rocky mountain roads to get to us like some rural trekking retreats! You will be amazed at how great the roads are to us and how easy it is to find. Here's a map of Spain, highlighting where Almeria is:
